The Montessori Group welcomes Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, as the Chair of the newly formed International Montessori Ambassadors group.
The appointment of the Duchess of York as Chair follows her philanthropic work with families and commitment to supporting a wide range of children’s charities throughout her life. She is a strong advocate for the Montessori approach, with her daughter Princess Eugenie beginning her education at a Montessori nursery in Windsor in 1992.
Whilst developed by Maria Montessori over 100 years ago, the Montessori approach is as relevant as ever in today’s world, not only at home and in the classroom, but as a tool for positive social change. Made up of senior figures in the social impact space and education, the new International Montessori Ambassadors will support the Montessori Group’s focus of honouring Maria Montessori’s humanitarian legacy and drawing on the Montessori values to build new partnerships and have a positive social impact internationally.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Chair of the International Montessori Ambassadors, says:
“I’m thrilled to have been invited to Chair the International Montessori Ambassadors. The Montessori approach encourages a love of learning and curiosity that is life-long, and this is something I’m very passionate about. It’s just as needed in today’s world as it was 100 years ago when Dr Maria Montessori developed her pedagogy. I’m looking forward to supporting the Montessori Group to reach more children, and ensure they get the best start in life.”
Geeta Sidhu-Robb, of the Board of Montessori St Nicholas, an arm of the Montessori Group, says:
“Over the last few years, we’ve had the honour of partnering with some incredible organisations which has helped us create positive social change. The new International Montessori Ambassadors will play a crucial role in extending this purpose and allow us to reach more people internationally. We’re overjoyed to have the Duchess heading up this new group and supporting our mission.”
Leonor Stjepic, CEO of the Montessori Group, says:
“We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming the Duchess of York to chair our new International Montessori Ambassadors, and very much welcome her support in building partnerships with organisations that can help us make a real difference to children, their families, and practitioners, around the world. Collaboration is an important part of the Montessori approach, and as an organisation we put collaborative relationships at the heart of all we do. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and the conversations it will spark.”
